Family Folklore
By Ron Garden-gnome
My Dad and I were in Grand Junction Colorado about to raft down a class six rapids one of the most dangerous thing my Dad and I have ever attempted. We were going to do the Blue Heron a 3 hour kayaking trip down the Colorado River. The river guide said that there are three bridges once you see the third one pull off to river left. O and on the third leg of the river watch out for the side cliff watch out for the side cliff on river right we have and boats disappearing there. So after that my Dad drove up to the blue heron put in site it was a long dirt launch in to the dangerous river.
It only took my Dad and me ten minutes to get the boat into the water and then we were off in to the unknown. It started with some class four rapids it was a bumpy ride with a lot of rocks but nothing my dad and I can’t handle. With oars in hand we trudged on until we hit the first bridge of the river and stopped at an eddy and had a snack and took short nap then we were back in the river.
There was a long stretch of flat water the to the class five rapids. I was jolting up and down from the power of the current. We must have been moving around 50,000 cubic feet per second because my dad lost his oar. But we just behind the second bridge so we pulled over and had are lunch and prepared for the challenges that we faced ahead.
We started moving down the ravenous, raging, running river at an amazing 100,000 cubic feet per second. There were rocks, trees and fallen brush at every turn so you always had to stay alert and keep your eyes on the horizon. We were flying down the river and then suddenly my dad flipped and he went under but he recovered and flipped back on the boat. The river picked up to 250,000 amazing cubic feet per second. We were come coming up on the bridge fast I rolled under water and I saw a prehistoric looking fish but I flipped up so fast it might have been a rock. Then my dad said “Go to River Left!!!” I barely made so we pulled our dented, scratched, scraped, and scared boats.

Dear Michal Phelps

Dear Michael Phelps,
I would love it if you could come to my school,
My school may not have a swim team right now, but I think it would help the school if we had one. Swimming is a great exercise and helps build confidence. I think you could help to change the school by convincing the school principle and teachers. When I first saw you in the Olympics I was awed by how many medals you received and all the records you broke.
You are an inspiration to many swimmers and all people. You have accomplished so much in such short time. I have many questions to ask you. What are you going to do when you get out of
You would be great motivation to all the kids at
Sincerely,
Ian Richter
Pop Can Djinni
Pop Can Djnni

Smack! was the sound the can I kicked made, when I was walking home from school but that’s not the only thing it did. The can fizzed, frizzled, and fractured and out popped something I never would have thought plausible a GENIE! He came out and Yawned and then he said “Hello I am Genie Earl the pop can genie I for awakening me I shall grant you 3 wishes with no strings attached”.
I replied “Nice to meet you Earl I am Ian.” “So what do you want to wish for?” Earl questioned.
“Well my first wish is that I could create a car that is very stylish, indestructible, and runs off of pollution and turns it into clean air.”
“It is done.” Smoke filled the air and suddenly there was a something right in front of me I wasn’t sure what it was. It was a squirrel!
“Did you flunk out of genie school?”
“No!”
“Then what is this.”
“Ooopppppppps wrong Spell.”
Suddenly the squirrel disappeared and was replaced with the coolest car I have ever seen it was like a Maserati and a Corvette. And it had this weird looking engine that had this small vent in front of it and had no tail pipe instead it had a fan to blow out clean air.
“Awesome!”
“That is not even the best part it can also turn into a boat.”
“Now for your 2nd wish Ian.”
“I wish that I could fly.”
“It is done.”
“Really I don’t feel any different.”
“Look below you.”
“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!”
“Push your arm’s out to the side.”
“Ok”
I didn’t move at all I did was spin.”
“Sorry I meant forward.”
Then I was off speeding fast than I have ever gone before it was the most amazing thing I have ever felt.
Then Earl said “Time for your 3rd wish.”
“I wish my family could spend more time together and go on around the world and pay our bills.”
“Good choice Ian it is done.”
“Thank you Earl”
Suddenly I was with my family hanging out in
“Maybe I Have”
The End
